"I don't have anyone to sit beside me"...

 In 2007, RSG began... why?

The community requested support, as obtaining a driver's license  became increasingly difficult for many disadvantaged Tasmanian's.  New licensing and legislation requires different stages of L's and 50 hours of driving experience before sitting for the provisional license.  As you can imagine this places some people at a disadvantage, especially if they can not afford to pay for lessons and they have no access to a car and driver to support them.

Obtaining a driver's license is a perceived 'rite of passage' that many of us take for granted. There are a growing number of people in the community who cannot afford driving lessons or access to support required to learn practical skills to drive a vehicle. This leaves them without the option of their own transport, restricting their ability to access employment, training or social opportunities, especially in areas where public transport is limited.

The Ready Set Go (RSG) project, adopted from the Top Gear Program on the western shore of Hobart, aims to continue to build on the success of the established pilot project. We hope to create opportunities for ongoing sustainability in supporting disadvantaged learner drivers gain the essential skills, experience and benefits of holding a drivers license.
